Saidy Samayoa, a 20-year-old from Panorama City, was charged today with murder and 12 other counts arising out of a fatal crash in North Hills this past Sunday.
Samayoa was charged with murder for the death of a 37-year-old man and other felony charges for the injury to the man’s three children and his wife, among others. The other charges include gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of a drug causing injury, and other motor vehicle offenses causing injury or reckless driving.
Prosecutors allege that Samayoa, at the time of this incident, was driving away from a separate hit-and-run that had just occurred.
Samayoa is further alleged to have been driving under the influence of a drug at the time of the accident, though it is presently unknown what, if any, drug the defendant had consumed.
The accident is believed to be the result of Samayoa’s failure to stop at a red light while traveling at a high rate of speed. At that time, Samayoa is alleged to have crashed into a Toyota minivan, causing multiple passengers to be ejected from the van. Samayoa herself suffered serious injuries, as well as her two passengers, and was immediately hospitalized.
Due to her physical condition, Samayoa has been unable to appear in court. Her arraignment has not yet been scheduled at this time. If Samayoa is convicted she could face up to life in prison.
