A Garden Grove woman accused of drugging her husband, cutting off his penis, and tossing it in a garbage disposal went on trial today in Orange County.
Cathereine Kieu, 50, faces felony charges of torture and aggravated mayhem, with the sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a knife. She faces a maximum sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole.
Kieu’s attorney is putting forward the argument that his client is suffering from mental problems and grew up in war-torn Vietnam which later influenced her actions. Prosecutors argued in opening statement that she was moved by jealousy.
Prosecutors allege that on the night of July 11, 2011, after a heated argument with her husband, Kieu prepared an dinner laced with Ambien, prompting her husband to go to bed. Kieu then allegedly tied her husbands legs to the bed, and cut off his genitalia. She then, allegedly, went to the kitchen, threw his genetalia in the garbage disposal and turned it on.
Police reported that after Kieu’s arrest she had told the officer her husband “deserved it”. She later pleaded not guilty to the charges.
