The trial of Tobias Dustin Summers began last week in Los Angeles Superior Court. Mr. Summers is accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in March 2013.

Mr. Summers is charged with over 30 counts of various sexual assault crimes, as well as kidnapping, burglary, and other sex crimes specifically related to minors.

The prosecution called the alleged victim, now 13-years-old, as a witness on the first day of the trial. She testified about the encounter and provided the jury with details about the alleged incident.

Mr. Summers’ lawyer, Jeff Yanuck, told the jurors not to be swayed by their emotions and to listen to the facts of the case, which he asserted would show inconsistencies in the accuser’s story.

Mr. Summers was arrested in Mexico approximately one month after the alleged incident occurred. The Los Angeles Police Department reported that a $25,000 reward was heavily advertised in Mexico concerning Mr. Summers’ whereabouts.

Mr. Summers’ original co-defendant, Daniel Martinez, was convicted of burglary last October, but acquitted of the young girl’s kidnapping.

Mr. Martinez was sentenced to six years imprisonment. If convicted, Mr. Summers will almost certainly face many more years in prison.
