On Thursday, August 27, 2015, officers from LAPD’s organized crime and narcotics units, along with federal Homeland Security and Customs agents, seized what was allegedly illegally grown marijuana at Herbal Relief Care Givers on Clybourn Avenue.
It is reported that law enforcement authorities seized over 1000 marijuana plants, along with other edible marijuana products, including gummy worms and doughnuts.
After obtaining a search warrant, the officers searched the premises of the facility and discovered a marijuana cultivation operation in a rear warehouse environment in Sun Valley.
LAPD issued a statement after their search and preliminary investigation, asserting these types of unlawful marijuana growing facilities is not only corrupt, but hurts local legitimate businesses in the area.
The Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution protects citizens from unreasonable searches and seizures of their person and property.
While there are some exceptions to the rule, police should ordinarily obtain a search warrant prior to conducting a search. In order to get a search warrant, police must show that there is a probable cause to search a particular place or person.
The Constitution provides important rights to people accused of committing a crime. If you or someone you know is being investigated or has been charged with a crime, it is important to speak with a criminal defense attorney to make sure your rights are protected.
