Cameron Thor, a former actor and acting coach convicted of lewd misconduct with a minor last August, was sentenced to six years imprisonment this past week for that offense.
Thor was convicted of having engaged in sexual activity in 2009 with a former female student who was only 13-years-old at the time. Thor’s defense attorneys claimed that nothing sexual occurred between him and the female. In her statement to the court, however, the victim claimed that Thor raped her in the backseat of his car.
Thor’s acting career included appearances in Jurassic Park, A Few Good Men, and the television shows “Cheers” and “Star Trek.” In addition to acting, Thor reportedly coached Cameron Diaz, Helen Hunt, and Courtney Cox, among others.
When arrested in 2014 for the offense, Thor was originally charged with more than 12 crimes, including rape and kidnapping. All of the charges except for lewd conduct with a minor were dismissed.
As a result of his conviction, the judge ordered that Thor serve his 6-year sentence without the possibility of parole. Moreover, Thor was sentenced to register as a sex offender.
Criminal charges can lead to serious consequences, including imprisonment, fines, the stigma of a criminal record, and—in some cases—sex offender registration. If you or someone you know has been charged with a crime, it is important to hire a criminal defense attorney to protect your rights.
