A mother from Scottsdale, Arizona, is facing charges of murder with special circumstances after she allegedly murdered her two children in a Costa Mesa hotel room, and then attempted suicide.
Marilyn Edge, 42, of Scottsdale, Ariz., has been in jail on suicide watch since her arrest Saturday.
Edge tipped off police shortly after they say she attempted to commit suicide in Costa Mesa by crashing her gray Honda Accord into protective poles surrounding an electric vault behind a Home Depot in the on Harbor Boulevard.
When officers responded, Edge wouldn’t unlock her doors or exit the car, according to a press release from the Costa Mesa Police Department. When she began strangling herself with an electrical cord, officers smashed a window of the 2006 Honda Accord and pulled her out, police said.
While she was with paramedics, Edge made comments indicating that a crime might have occurred in Santa Ana, just six miles away from where she attempted to commit suicide. Upon investigation, Edge’s children’s bodies were found inside a third-floor room at the Hampton Inn & Suites near the 55 Freeway and Dyer Road around 9 a.m. The children’s cause of death has not been released. Edge allegedly kidnapped her two children after her ex-husband was awarded sole custody.
Edge is now facing two counts of murder for the killing of her 10-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son. She is to be arraigned Tuesday, September 17, in Santa Ana.
